Don’t Forget Your Feet When it Comes to Anti-Aging
While anti-aging skin care often focuses on the face, neck, and even hands, there’s one overlooked anti-aging zone that could be adding years to your appearance.
Your feet!
That’s right: particularly during sandal season, those oft-forgotten feet can age you much more than you might think. Beyond anti-aging, poor foot care can result in discomfort and even health issues.
Never fear, we’ve got the facts and the strategies to help you get those feet looking and feeling sweet.
Read on to learn why your feet deserve a spot in your anti-aging routine, and how you can put your best feet forward!
3 Reasons to Focus on Foot Care
Why Your Feet Deserve Some Love
Summer heat has all our tender tootsies on display! But if your care routine is skipping your feet, they could be adding years to your look and even contributing to discomfort and health problems.
Here are 3 reasons to start prioritizing foot care:
1. Dry Feet Can Age Your Look
Did you know that feet don’t have oil glands to keep them moisturized? This means that thick skin on your feet loses moisture quickly. This lack of hydration makes them prone to rough skin, calluses, and cracking. To make matters more challenging, foot hydration decreases as we age.
Skin hydration and texture have been shown to influence people’s perception when it comes to age and beauty. This means that those dry, callused feet could be undermining your glow, aging your appearance from the sole up.
Dry feet are more than a cosmetic issue, however. Dryness can lead to cracks, pain, and even infection!
Bust crusty heels and bring those feet into your regular care routine.

2. Calluses Can Affect Your Movement
Calluses can be painful. As such, they can actually affect the function of your feet, and the way you carry yourself. Excess callus affects the amount of stress exerted on your feet. This can lead to shifts in your gait and posture.
Posture and the way you carry yourself play a huge role in how youthful you look. Imagine two people walking by. One is balanced, confident, and upright, while the other is hunched, slow, shuffling, maybe even hobbling. What would you assume about their ages?
Beyond keeping your movement youthful, regular foot care is crucial for health and vitality. Your feet are your foundation, and it’s worth spending time taking care of them.
3. Neglected Feet Can Impact Circulation & Skin Health
Ignoring your feet can cause more than just cracked heels. Neglecting foot care can cause decreased circulation, affecting swelling, skin tone, and even collagen support.
The good news? Getting a regular foot care routine going can help A LOT. One study found that foot care made a significant difference in foot problems, improving appearance, moisture, circulation, pain, and more.

Give your Feet a Spa Day
How to Start Taking Care of your Feet
So we’ve learned why it’s important to take care of your feet, but where should you begin?
If your feet could use some attention, a nourishing foot soak is a great place to start. Salt soaks can help reduce inflammation, enhance circulation, alleviate pain, exfoliate feet, and treat foot issues like odor and athlete’s foot.
Here is a foot soak recipe that helps soften skin, restore moisture, support circulation, and is a relaxing, spa-like ritual that your feet will definitely thank you for:
Fabulous Feet Spa Soak
Step 1: Gather Supplies
- ½ Cup Epsom Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Sea Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda
- 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil or other natural moisturizer
- Optional: Lavender Essential Oil (you can substitute your favourite)
- Optional: Skin-loving Herbs for the soak
- A Pumice Stone or Foot File
- Thick Socks
Step 2: Soak
Fill a basin with warm water and add your salts, baking soda, and a couple drops of essential oil or your herbs. Soak your feet for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 3: Exfoliate
Gently exfoliate your feet, focusing on heels and any callused areas.
Step 4: Moisturize
Add a couple drops of essential oil (if using) to your coconut oil or moisturizer, and take some time to massage it into your feet. Tip: take care when walking around after this step, as your feet will be slippery!
Step 5: Seal in Softness
Slip on thick socks to help lock in the moisture. Leave them on for 20 minutes, or wear overnight to boost softening.
Step 6: Keep it Up!
Repeat 1 to 2 times per week for soft, nourished, revitalized feet. This is a perfect before-bed ritual to unwind and soothe aching feet after a long day.
Remember that consistency is everything. To keep those soles supple and sandal-ready, make sure to moisturize your feet like you do your face— daily!
Takeaway
When it comes to anti-aging, feet are often overlooked. The state of your feet can add years to your appearance. Poor foot care can also cause pain and even health issues.
Caring for your feet is important on so many levels. Regular foot care can help your feet look and feel their best. It is also an act of self-care that grounds you, literally. When your feet feel healthy, nourished, and pain-free, it changes how you move through the world— and how confidently you show up in it. Put your best feet forward!
The takeaway? Next time you’re cleansing and moisturizing your face, don’t forget about your feet. They deserve love too!
